Project Overview

In April 2020, Global Brigades completed the renovation and construction of a new water system in the community of Guayacan that now feeds water to 492 community members.

Guayacan, Honduras

The community of Guayacan is located in El Paraiso on the southeastern side of Honduras. When Global Brigades arrived at the community in 2019 to design a water system, community members expressed that the community had two water systems, one used only during the dry season or as an emergency water source when the water service couldn’t be provided to all houses, and the other one for the rest of the year. Water service in the community was provided 4 days a week for 1.5 hours, houses located in higher areas have problems, and water does not reach them. The water tank and plumbing line also needed renovation. Another issue was that the water wasn’t chlorinated.

Water System Solution

After the general assessment done by Global Brigades in 2019, the solution for Guayacan was to extend the connections of the 10,000-gallon water tank that was in the community with a total of 3.24 kilometres of piping that now feeds all the 492 community members. The improvement and extension of this water system were finished on April 2020.
