Project Overview
Chandala is located in Cantarranas, Francisco Morazan which is in the center of Honduras. People in Chandala frequently suffer from the flu, asthma, and diarrheal disease, most of which result from a lack of adequate hygiene and sanitation infrastructure. Many of these health issues arise from a lack of proper water and hygiene infrastructure, sanitation practices, healthcare, and education resources.
Chandala, Honduras
Chandala has a gravity water system that was constructed in 1992. The water system needed some improvements and there was a lot of interest to improve the water system, making it a good partnership for Global Brigades and Chandala as well with the municipality.
Since the water system was initially created, major changes had not been made to the system.
Water System Solution
As part of the project, Global Brigades installed a 25,000-gallon water storage tank at a newly designated site within the community to strengthen the overall water distribution system. Additionally, 8.60 kilometers of suitable piping were implemented to improve system pressure, allowing water to reach every household efficiently without the need for sectorization. The upgraded water system was finalized in April 2023 and is expected to provide sustained, reliable service over an extended period with no major upgrades anticipated.
