Project Overview

Parihuaca community is located in Nacaome, Valle which is in the south of Honduras. People in the community frequently suffer from the flu, asthma, and diarrheal disease, most of which result from a lack of adequate hygiene and sanitation infrastructure. Many of these health issues arise from a lack of proper water and hygiene infrastructure, sanitation practices, healthcare, and education resources.

Parihuaca, Honduras

At the time of Global Brigades’ initial visit, the community of Parihuaca did not have a formal water system or a reliable water source. The community did not have a potable water committee and relies solely on a manually operated well drilled approximately 20 years ago. This well had an approximate depth of 64 meters and a preliminary estimated flow rate of 30 gallons per minute (GPM); however, no additional water infrastructure or distribution system was in place beyond the well itself.

Despite these challenges, the community demonstrated a strong commitment to improving its water conditions, leading to a productive and meaningful partnership with Global Brigades.

Water System Solution

As part of the project, Global Brigades installed a 5,000-gallon water storage tank at a newly designated site within the community to strengthen the overall water distribution system. Additionally, 3.20 kilometers of suitable piping were implemented to improve system pressure, allowing water to reach every household efficiently without the need for sectorization. The upgraded water system was finalized in September 2025 and is expected to provide sustained, reliable service over an extended period with no major upgrades anticipated. A total of 100 people benefited from this project.
