Project Overview

In 2021, Global Brigades and its partner, the Ghana Water Company, installed 1 new standpipe in New Ebu providing clean water to over 4,213 people.

New Ebu, Ghana

Community members in New Ebu, located in Abura District, rely primarily on farming, arts and crafts, fishing, and trading to make a living. One of the major challenges for the development of their community was the lack of access to clean, sufficient, drinking water. The community of New Ebu had a few water systems that fed the community before the construction of the new standpipes. Community members had access to a well that was built 10 years and a few standpipes that were also around 10 years old, all these systems needed fixing or improvements. New Ebu has a water committee with 4 members.

Water System Solution

The Ghana Water Company is in charge of water distribution and treatment in New Ebu’s region. In 2021, Global Brigades worked with the GWC to modify and expand its distribution infrastructure to get treated water to strategic points within New Ebu where 1 standpipe was built and finished in 2022. This standpipe gives the 4,213 community members living in New Ebu, access to clean potable water, and meets the standards of the World Health Organization. By placing them in areas near the population, families spend less time and energy retrieving water for use in their homes.
